About Me

I'm Alex Worrell. I live near to Mitcham and have been messing around with computers since I bought a Commodore VIC-20 back in 1987. Having found it did not have enough memory to take a program I was attempting to type in from a book, I upgraded to an Amstrad CPC464, with a "whopping" 64k of memory. It was on this that I taught myself BASIC, Zilog Z80 Assembly Language, COBOL, BCPL, C, and Visual Basic.

In 1995 I took on a two year HNC in computing, and in 1998 I took on my first programming job at Atkins. I have been at Atkins for over 15 years and have worked on diverse projects, including:

  • Development of public transport journey planning software;
  • Website design and development;
  • Design and development of data transformation software;
  • Database development using MySQL and SQL Server;
  • Word and Excel scripting;
  • Maintenance of AutoCAD addons.

During this time I have learnt Delphi / Object Pascal, C++, HTML / HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript, C#, .Net, SQL Server, MySQL, XML, XSD, XSLT, JSON, Node.js, jQuery, and Python.

In my spare time I enjoy playing badminton, singing, watching live music, watching live stand up comedy, going to festivals, and a bit of photography.
